While I was a kid I lived in Kalihi but Waikiki was a nice place to hang out. My friends and I would save money for bus fare so we could go. We pulled this bus transfer trick. A couple of us would get on the bus and get a transfer. Later we’d go ask the bus driver for another one like we forgot to ask when we got on. Our other friend would walk to meet us at the transfer point at Coco’s, where Hard Rock Café is now. With the extra transfer he got to ride for free. With his bus money we had some extra cash for food. We bought these chocolate bars called ‘Big Hunks’ or ‘Look’ for a nickel each. They were huge in those days. Each bar fed two of us.
